All of the latest Liverpool news from the last 24 hours.
Brendan Rodgers is expected to name a strong side for the Europa League tie against Udinese despite praising some of the younger individuals who have recently played in the team. Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina and Luis Suarez are all expected to be named in the squad alongside some of the most talented youth players Liverpool have ever seen. The move is said to have been prompted by the three goals the club conceded against Young Boys.
Liverpool are expected to show faith to Suso, Andre Wisdom, Raheem Sterling ahead of the Udinese match in the Europa League. Brendan Rodgers is expected to name the younger players alongside some of the first team heavyweights at the club in order to protect the side from giving away sloppy goals. However Dani Pacheco Tweeted last night to say he will not be involved tonight: “Good night all. Not involved tomorrow. As always, keep working.”
Stewart Downing has vowed to fight for his place in the Liverpool team this season. Downing is expected to start in the Europa League tie against Udinese and is looking for more starts after being in and out of the side all season. He has revealed that he is determined to prove that he deserves a place in the Liverpool team despite the challenge from younger players coming through.
Raheem Sterling has been called up to the England Under-21s squad for the European Championship double leg play-off match against Serbia. Sterling was being tipped for a call up to the England senior side for World Cup qualification matches against San Marino and Poland later on this month. Sterling has been a regular in the Liverpool team under Brendan Rodgers.
Joe Cole could make his first team comeback for Liverpool in the Europa League match with Udinese. Cole has been out of the side for most of the season nursing constant injuries but recently played in a youth team match against Fulham as one of the only players allowed to play over 21-years-old. Cole spent most of last season on loan at French club Lille.
Fabio Borini has made a promise to Liverpool and the club’s supporters that he will score the goals to justify his £11 million price tag. Borini has scored only once since he signed for the club from Roma and has asked fans to be patient with him as they may not see a return from the front man until January. Borini is expected to start in the Europa League tie against Udinese despite being dropped to the bench against Norwich.
Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is on the verge of singing a new long term contract with the club according to reports. Agger is currently nursing a fractured knee cap but the injury is not severe enough to keep him out of first team action and he could feature in the game against Udinese. Agger’s current contract expires in 2014 and he has revealed he is keen to sign on at the club.
Liverpool are preparing to work out a new contract for club captain Steven Gerrard. The 31-year-old could sign a new deal as part of the mass move by the club to secure the futures of key players. If Gerrard does sign a new contract at Liverpool it will almost certainly mean that he will spend the rest of his career at Anfield after previously turning down an approach from Chelsea.
Does Pacheco’s omission indicate Liverpool are going to put out a first choice side? What is your predicted line-up?
