Liverpool latest: Reaction to Swansea defeat and transfer talk

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has said that the club deserved to lose against Swansea City in the League Cup. Liverpool were well beaten 3-1 by Swansea as their struggles at home to get a win continue. Rodgers has described the performance as slow and disappointing.

Brendan Rodgers has blamed Liverpool’s defeat to Swansea City in the League Cup on the club’s squad depth. Rodgers has described his squad as paper thin as he has been forced to regularly play a number of youth players in recent cup and league games to cope with the lack of first choice players.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has criticised midfielder Joe Cole and described the player as not good value for money. Rodgers was speaking after the Carling Cup defeat to Swansea City where Cole played his biggest role for the club this season but was taken off at half-time.

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent is being linked with a move to Liverpool in January. The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool will step up their interest in signing the 28-year-old to partner Luis Suarez who is currently the only fit striker at the Anfield club. Bent is out of favour with current Villa boss Paul Lambert.

Liverpool are closing in on finalising a £1 million deal for Finnish striker Joel Pohjanpalo. The club have been linked with the HJC Helsinki star for a number of weeks and the deal seemed off as the player previously said he wouldn’t join Liverpool when Kenny Dalglish was in charge.

Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo has stated that he wants to keep striker Daniel Sturridge at the club. Liverpool have been linked with the front man as they look for striking options ahead of the January transfer window. Sturridge has also been linked with a possible move to Arsenal.

Andre Wisdom has praised veteran Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher for his advice both on and off the pitch. Wisdom is one of the next generation defenders at Liverpool and he has revealed how Carragher has been helping him from the sidelines and also when the pair are in the same team.

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier says Brendan Rodgers needs time to be successful at the club. Rodgers is under increasing pressure after a poor start to the Premier League, inconsistency in Europe and now an exit from the League Cup. Houllier has urged the club not to give in and sack him.
