Victor Moses could turn out to be one of the best signings Brendan Rodgers made during the summer transfer window.
The Chelsea winger and forward will be with Liverpool until the end of the season and his natural attributes point towards the chance he could be a cracking signing for the club, having a big impact at Anfield.
He could also create a real problem for the club that currently owns him should he have such a dramatic impact in Liverpool red, that Rodgers urges the club to make the temporary move permanent at the end of the current season.
Here are five ways Moses should make Liverpool a better team.
Width
His ability to stay glued to either side of the pitch is very important because he will increase the amount of space that the Liverpool midfield covers.
His skill as a winger is very high and he can create all sorts of different problems for full backs which have knock on effects to their own defence. His pace and movement allows him to pull defenders out of position which will create space for other attacking players at the club to exploit.
Versatility
He’s equally comfortable down either wing and equally threatening.
The fact he’s a two footed player is significant because it means he can hog the touchline on either flank as well as providing that threat when coming inside with the ball, looking for an opportunity to rain shots in on goal.
He can also play as a number ten sort of striker, which offers Rodgers options if Liverpool have a spell this season where they are carrying injuries to key attacking players.
Age and Appearances
The fact he’s still a very young man at only 22-years-old, doubled with the fact he’s only made 23 appearances for Chelsea is important.
Those two factors combined mean he signs for Liverpool with a point to prove and the sort of youthful enthusiasm and passion which you only get from younger players.
What that guarantees for Liverpool is that he should be determined to have an impact with the club, raising his performance levels slightly beyond what he’s normally capable of.
Pace
His pace will be a valuable asset and will have an impact on the tactics Rodgers uses, especially when Liverpool play away from home.
As he’s a wide player and because he’s so quick, Liverpool can afford to camp deep inside their own half of the pitch when they are taking a lot of pressure. Moses provides an instant outlet in a wide area and a player who is capable of exploiting the opposition on the counter attack.
His pace will also put the opposition full backs on the back foot slightly which should create extra space for him to rain crosses into the box.
Mentality
It’s very significant that Liverpool are getting a player who has a winning mentality.
Since Moses joined Chelsea in 2012, he has experienced success and silverware in a very big way and that has the ability to rub off on a young man, creating a desire to ensure that feeling is maintained regardless of which club he’s playing for.
How that translates physically for Liverpool is very simple, they have a player who will demand the best from everyone else on the pitch, not afraid to have a go at someone for making a mistake or not pulling their weight, regardless of their stature around the club.
