Five Reasons Ian Holloway should resist Crystal Palace approach

Crystal Palace have wasted no time in their search for a new manager after reports this morning stating they have already moved for Blackpool boss Ian Holloway. Here are five reasons why Holloway should resist any move.

Job Role and Security

Ian Holloway is the main man at Blackpool, he runs the team as he sees fit and has a very good relationship with the current chairman. He may initially be impressed by Crystal Palace and everything they have to offer but he could find it difficult to get to grips with a change of control. His leadership status and role may not be as clear as it currently is at Blackpool.

Consistency

Palace are in a very good position at the moment while it looks like the most Blackpool can hope for is a play-off place. However, the last couple of seasons have shown us that Palace can be very inconsistent. They have managed to fend off the threat of relegation down to League One and now that their manager has left, they could quickly and easily slide down the table. If Holloway is in charge while this happens, it creates instant resentment from Crystal Palace fans.

Support

This brings us onto the next point which is all about support from the fans. Blackpool fans adore Ian Holloway because he stands up for the club and guided them to promotion up to the Premier League. He has always been a very realistic boss and knows the club’s limitations and potential which is why the fans love him so much. If he moves then there will be a small portion of fans who turn their feelings around towards Holloway which could make it difficult for him personally as he is bound to stay living in the Blackpool area initially.

Club Stature

There isn’t too much difference between Crystal Palace and Blackpool in terms of club stature. Holloway will face the same problems at Palace as he does at Blackpool in terms of trying to keep hold of the club’s best players as bigger clubs come calling. His relationship with the Blackpool chairman has always made this easier to handle, he may not like the powers that be at Palace trying to push through the sale of the better players for the sake of profit, another area which could cause friction.

Family Reasons

The final point why Holloway could stay where he is at Blackpool are family reasons. Holloway has always been a passionate family man and he could choose to keep his family where they are as opposed to uprooting them. Reports also suggest that Holloway was approached about taking over as the Ipswich Town manager, another club in the South East. They are in a different position altogether from Palace but he if it’s true he turned that down and it could have been to do with his family.
