Bolton Wanderers have announced they will not be offering Kevin Davies a new contract beyond the end of this season.
Kevin Davies is one of the most experienced English strikers around. At 36-years-old you can understand why Bolton may be thinking of moving in another direction but if he doesn’t retire then he could certainly do a job for any number of football league sides.
Blackpool
Blackpool have never been afraid to take a punt on older players and this could have the same positive effect that Kevin Phillips brought to the club, during his spell at Bloomfield Road. Davies is certainly more than capable of leading this attack and giving his experience to younger players.
Blackburn Rovers
Whatever goes on with Blackburn at the top level, they have always been a club that can attract big name quality signings. They should be willing to offer Davies a short term deal as their prospects of getting back up towards the promotion spots would be enhanced with him in the side.
Leeds United
Leeds are another side that should really already be back in the Premier League. They have endured a lot of inconsistency when it comes to the attack of their side and Davies’ presence would certainly help to eradicate that. However, they may be less willing than other clubs to take a punt on an older player.
Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster are in pole position to win the League One title which will mean a return to the Championship. They will be looking to make squad additions over the summer and Davies could be given a role in the side, which will enhance their chances of staying up at the first time of trying.
Sheffield United
The Blades are currently in the League One play-off places and their chances of signing Davies rely on them securing promotion to the Championship via that route. If United approached Davies then he may be less willing to join them for a season if they are playing in League One.
Do you think he’ll move on or hang up his boots?
