It’s a massive weekend of Premier League football as they could move up to 15th if they beat Wigan and other results go their way.
Reading are out of the bottom three, that’s the first job done, they now need to climb up the bottom half of the table and not look back. They have a difficult task this weekend as they go to Wigan who are very unpredictable at home. If they win then things will start to look very Rosy for the Royals.
Reading now have their first home win on the board and they need to add their first away win to get things moving. They have played five away from home with two draws and three defeats, they have conceded nine goals which is by no means the worst record but they have struggled to score with only five goals for.
It’s a big weekend for the club because it’s the first time in a number of weeks that they are under slightly less pressure than normal, this could be very beneficial to the side and may even improve the way they play as they don’t have the monkey on their back of being in the bottom three.
A away at Wigan is not so much about the league position, it’s more about the points and the cushion it would give them from Aston Villa, Southampton and Queens Park Rangers. It’s a big weekend because if they win then they have a three point gap from 18th place, effectively a game they can afford to lose without dropping back into the bottom three.
It’s also a big weekend for the gaffer because Brian McDermott has told his club to keep the faith all season long. A win would go a long way to ensuring his role over the rest of the season but a defeat would leave the powers that be at Reading questioning whether McDermott is capable of any sort of consistency over the remaining 25 games after the weekend.
The 2-1 win over Everton last weekend has created some belief, some positive thinking, some happiness and some joy which no one, fans, players or tea lady will want to end. It’s important the team first of all gets a result and then plays well which will go a long way to maintaining these positive feelings.
A win would also allow them to build a bit of momentum, they face Aston Villa at home next Tuesday which they will see as a winnable game and they need to be confident, happy and ready to scrap as hard as possible by the time Manchester United visit on the first day the advent calendars open on December 1.
