West Ham are precariously placed just about the relegation places on goal difference a quarter of the way through the season.
Just two wins from the first nine games has seen Slaven Bilic come under intense pressure with the likes of Rafa Benitez and Roberto Mancini linked as potential replacements.
Supporters have been fed up with the club’s performances all year long and they seem to have suffered a hangover from last season.
A number of reasons have been suggested for West Ham’s struggles with everything from the board to the manager, stadium, pitch size and even the colour of the carpet which surrounds it used as an excuse.
However there is no hiding from a recent statistic aired on BBC’s Match of the Day which probably offers a more accurate insight into why the East Londoners find themselves at the wrong end of the table so far this season.
That’s because the Hammers are bottom in two key areas with the lowest number of sprints in the entire league and the lowest distance covered by players.
The minimum West Ham fans expect is players to put a shift in for the club.
Supporters will excuse most things but a lack of work rate and effort they will not.
According to Match of the Day, West Ham have covered 944.1km in their nine games so far and have managed 3,938 sprints.
West Ham also have the second oldest squad in the Premier League, which is at odds with their academy roots.
