According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio have launched a €20million (£18million) bid for Club Brugge striker Wesley as they attempt to beat Newcastle to his signature.

Wesley, 22, enjoyed a superb season in Belgium, scoring 17 goals whilst also racking up 10 assists for Club Brugge.

The Brazilian target man left the pitch in tears against Royal Antwerp last month, believing that he’s played his last game for the club ahead of a summer transfer.

A host of clubs are keen on signing Wesley, and Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Lazio have now offered £18million, with €15million up front and €5million in add-ons.

Lazio are seemingly hoping to rush through a deal for Wesley, potentially taking Newcastle out of the race, as they need to sort out Rafael Benitez’s future before agreeing a deal for the striker.

The Chronicle reported last week that Benitez is keen to bring Wesley to St James’ Park, making contact about a deal given question marks over Salomon Rondon’s future.

It was even claimed that Wesley is ‘excited’ about the prospect of joining Newcastle, but any deal is dependent on Benitez committing his future to the Magpies, which is taking longer than hoped.

That means Lazio are now attempting to seize their chance and sort out a deal for Wesley, which should leave Newcastle worried about missing out.
