Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny applauds fans after the game
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has told Goal he is determined to pay back Arsene Wenger for giving him his chance at a big club.
The French defender arrived at the Emirates from Lorient six years ago in a move that raised many an eyebrow.
He was playing his football in the French second division at that point, with many questioning whether he was good enough to play in the Premier League.
He has since proved those doubters wrong, though, as he has established himself as a Premier League star as well as a regular in the France team.

For some, he is among the best in England, if not Europe, and Koscielny says he is keen to pay back his manager for the faith that he showed.
“He was the man who gave me the chance to move to a big club”, Koscielny told Goal.
“He took the risk of buying me in a small club making me grow as a player and man. He managed his bet I think I try to prove that he was right to trust me.”
“I want to give him back that, but I’m not the only example, there have been many. He did a great job during his years at Arsenal.”

The best way for Koscielny to pay back Wenger would be providing the defensive backbone to help Arsenal challenge for the title this season.
So far he appears to have formed a strong partnership with Shkodran Mustafi, with the Gunners conceding seven goals so far, the joint third best record in the league.
They will need to continue that kind of form if they are to be title contenders and provide Arsene Wenger with his first league success since 2004.
