Laurent Blanc is linked with the Everton job this summer.
By virtue of his reaction to being substituted in Everton’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool this past weekend, you could argue that Wayne Rooney isn’t chuffed about playing under manager Sam Allardyce at the moment.
The 32-year-old snubbed a handshake from his manager on the touchline when Allardyce subbed him off for Idrissa Gana after 57 minutes at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Rooney isn’t a first-team regular for the Toffees and has been benched three times during their last 10 Premier League outings.
You could forgive the Manchester United legend if he was pleased with speculation about former Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc possibly replacing Allardyce this summer – and the Frenchman, going by previous comments, might be a big fan of the frustrated attacker.
Rooney was linked with a move to PSG back in 2013 and Blanc told Sky Sports at the time: “He is an amazing player, his qualities are well known by everyone. But in attack we are well supplied.
“We will rather look for players in midfield. If there should be another reinforcement, it should be in that position. Rooney could play anywhere, but his best position is in the heart of attack.”
Rooney is five years older now and what was true for Blanc back then might not be as relevant, particularly his opinion about him being at his best in the heart of attack.
But even at 32, Rooney, United and England’s all-time record goalscorer, has a big role to play for the Toffees and maybe Blanc could be the man to get the very best out of him.
