Laurens De Bock injury spell could give Tom Pearce more Leeds chances

Tom Pearce made his debut for Leeds United in the Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road.

Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has told Leeds Live that Laurens De Bock will be out of action for a while.

The 25-year-old Belgian left-back did not feature for Leeds in the Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Heckingbottom has stated that the former Lokeren star has a hamstring injury and will be on the sidelines for a while.

“Yeah, injured,” Heckingbottom told Leeds Live when asked about Samuel Saiz. “So him and Bocky [Laurens de Bock] have both got totally different hamstring injuries.”

“But Bocky’s slightly different,” Heckingbottom added. “His is more damaging, he’ll be out for a while.”

De Bock has struggled to make an impact at Leeds since his move from Club Brugge in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £1.5 million.

The injury to the Belgian means that Tom Pearce could be set for an extended spell in the first team.

The 19-year-old left-back made his debut for Leeds against Wednesday and played well for the home team.

The youngster is a very talented and promising young defender, and he could now be looking at the prospect of playing quite a few matches for Leeds.
