Aaron Ramsdale has shared that he was ‘laughing my head off’ at the abuse he was getting from Leeds fans during Arsenal’s win at Elland Road earlier this month, as he told Ben Foster’s YouTube channel.

The England goalkeeper shared that in the pre-match warm-up, the Leeds tannoy announcer urged the fans to ‘stop abusing the Arsenal goalkeeper, please’.

Arsenal’s summer signing didn’t know whether they were being ‘serious’ or ‘trying to wind me up even more’.

Either way, it was the former Sheffield United man that got the last laugh because Arsenal ran riot and claimed a 4-1 win against a injury-savaged Marcelo Bielsa side.

The Arsenal shot-stopper could be seen giving it back to the Leeds fans as the goals were going in from his players.

Nonetheless, he shared what that experience was like and how he just took it all in his stride.

“Well, they were either being serious or trying to wind me up even more,” said Ramsdale on the tannoy announcement. “We as keepers thought that was them trying to get the fans riled. Get them up for it.

“I am in the warm-up and I am getting a bit. Honestly, I am just singing away to Christmas songs at this point. I am doing my sets and in between, I am sat on a ball or an advertising board. There are a few nice people saying ‘Oh, you are doing well. Keep doing what you are doing, but don’t play too well and that’.

“Then one geeza, fat geeza and he’s like ‘blah, blah’ and I am like ‘yeh, sound’. Then, over the tannoy, a woman’s voice goes, ‘Can the people in the East Stand, stop abusing the Arsenal goalkeeper, please’.

“Then the fans go, ‘waheey. He’s going to cry in a minute’ and then everybody is giving me dog’s abuse. And I am laughing my head off for getting abuse.”

Ramsdale’s reactions during games and the character he has been displaying in between the sticks for Arsenal has made him a popular figure with the fans.

Even though he has hardly been at Arsenal for six months, there are some even calling for him to be the next captain.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been stripped of that role and it seems as though Ramsdale might be a contender.

Either way, from the start of the season when his transfer was being questioned, he has certainly answered a lot of his critics by the manner in which he has been performing.
