Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after Mikel Arteta revealed that Takehiro Tomiyasu does not yet have a work permit.

What’s the story?

Well, Arteta kept this one quiet.

As quoted by Football London, the Spaniard said: “We need a work permit first. The club is working hard to try and achieve that in the next couple of hours.”

Tomiyasu arrived from Bologna on deadline day in a £16m deal, before heading straight off to international duty with Japan.

The Evening Standard believe the defender will meet Arteta today, and train with his teammates at London Colney.

However, the 22-year-old is currently unable to face Norwich this weekend, as he is yet to receive his permit to work.

Even if Tomiyasu does receive one, it remains to be seen if Arteta will use him against the Canaries, seeing as he hasn’t trained with Arsenal before today.

Will Arsenal get Takehiro Tomiyasu a work permit?

We’re not sure when it’ll happen, but we’re confident Tomiyasu will receive his work permit.

As the Premier League announced, the United Kingdom Home Office has a points-based system to decide who is eligible for a work permit.

The versatile defender has amassed 23 caps for Japan, which will help him earn points in his mission to receive a permit.

Additionally, Tomiyasu arrived for a significant sum of money. The fact he cost £16m helps his bid to earn a work permit.

It’s pretty much a matter of when, not if, the Japanese defender receives it.

Arsenal surely wouldn’t have signed him if they weren’t confident of getting one.

Nevertheless, the Arsenal fans are still annoyed it’s taken so long to sort out.

Let’s see what they’ve been saying about the situation…
