Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Southampton defender Cedric Soares.

Reports from The Mirror suggest that Tottenham Hotspur have added Southampton defender Cedric Soares to their list of right backs targets.

Question marks hang over the future of Spurs right back Kyle Walker, with the Daily Mail reporting that Manchester City are still pursuing a deal for the England international.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino does have Kieran Trippier available to play in Walker’s place, whilst youngster Kyle Walker-Peters looks set for a bright future, but a new signing may be needed in Walker’s place.

A number of right backs have already been linked with moves to North London, but The Mirror now report that Tottenham are interested in signing Southampton right back Cedric Soares.

The Portuguese international, 25, joined Southampton from Sporting Lisbon back in 2015 as a replacement for Nathaniel Clyne following his move to Liverpool, and he has impressed on the South Coast.

With pace, attacking ability and solid defensive play, Cedric could be a superb addition for Tottenham, and one way to try and convince a reluctant Southampton into a deal is to offer up Kevin Wimmer.

The Mirror recently claimed that Southampton want to sign Tottenham centre back Kevin Wimmer, who featured in just five Premier League games last season, but weren’t willing to meet the £20million asking price on his head.

With Wimmer seemingly out of favour under Pochettino, Tottenham may now have the perfect opportunity to offer up Wimmer in a swap or part-exchange deal for Cedric, giving Wimmer the chance to play first-team football elsewhere whilst giving Spurs the right back they want.

Southampton certainly won’t be keen to sell their key players this summer, but offering a centre back they are interested in could just give Spurs a chance at landing Cedric this summer.
