Sunderland are seemingly no closer to appointing David Moyes’ successor.

There is a surprise new name on Sky Bet‘s list of contenders to become Sunderland’s next manager.

Previously nowhere to be seen, German boss Jens Keller is now 9/1 third favourite to succeed David Moyes at the Stadium of Light.

Keller, who was recently linked with the Norwich City post, led Union Berlin to the bring of promotion to the Bundesliga last season, and managed VFB Stuttgart and Schalke 04 before then.

Sunderland’s manager pursuit has been halted by off-field uncertainty, which is thought to have played a part in Derek McInnes’ decision to snub the Black Cats in favour of staying at Aberdeen.

Preston boss Simon Grayson remains the 2/1 frontrunner with Sky Bet, ahead of Nigel Pearson [6/1] and Keller.

Former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips is 10/1, with Alan Pardew and Chris Wilder 11/ and 12/1 respectively.
