Preston North End’s Grayson is leading the race to become Sunderland’s next boss.
Preston manager Simon Grayson
Preston North End manager Simon Grayson is the new favourite to replace David Moyes at Sunderland, according to Sky Bet.
Grayson has remained in contention for the Stadium of Light role since it became available last month, although his odds have never been as short as they are now [7/4].
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes
Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes was the long-time front-runner, but is now behind his Preston counterpart at 2/1.
And Nigel Pearson, most recently of Derby County, is also well-placed with odds of 4/1 after being linked with Sunderland over the weekend.
Former Derby County manager Nigel Pearson
Grayson has taken Preston from the bottom end of League One to the Championship’s top half in four years, having also led Blackpool, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town to promotion from the third tier.
But while his track record is sure to appeal to Sunderland, the fact he remains under contract at Deepdale could prove a stumbling block.
No other candidate currently occupies odds of more than 22/1 [Derby coach Kevin Phillips].
Would Grayson be a good appointment for Sunderland?
