Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez wants a new left-back in January and out-of-favour Shaw is on his radar.

If Luke Shaw can stay fit, he could be a brilliant addition for Newcastle United. Supporters have been clamouring for an exciting, attack minded left-back to replace the divisive Paul Dummett for some time and the England international, jet-heeled, modern and exciting, is exactly what they are asking for.
That ‘if’, however, is a rather substantial one. Since suffering that horrific leg break against PSV Eindhoven in 2015/16 Champions League group stages, Shaw’s Manchester United career has stuttered with his fitness and form fluctuating.
And with his clearly unimpressed manager Jose Mourinho taking aim at the £30 million man for being out of shape on more than one occasion, Newcastle fans could be forgiven for being a little sceptical as speculation intensifies that Shaw could be on his way to Tyneside.

Shaw thing
Per The Mirror, United may opt to loan the seldom-seen defender out in January and there is no shortage of interest with Tottenham Hotspur and former club Southampton keen.
And the report adds that Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is also in the race as he is desperate to bring in reinforcements at left-back – a position that has become a problem for The Magpies in recent weeks thanks to injuries to both Dummett and Massadio Haidara.

Though, according to The Sun, Newcastle fans should trust in Benitez’s judgement. Because it is understood that Shaw has transformed himself in recent weeks and is now one of the fittest players at Old Trafford.
Mourinho famously criticised Shaw for his lack of effort in training – but the report claims that he has devoted himself to spending hours in the gym in a bid to get his career back on track.
If true, this should lessen the risk of Newcastle taking Shaw to Tyneside in January.
