Malky Mackay is the latest name linked with the vacant Rangers position, with SkyBet pricing him at 12/1.

The former Watford, Wigan Athletic and Cardiff City manager is out of work at present, and was one of the contenders interviewed for the Celtic job last summer before Brendan Rodgers landed the gig.

Mackay publicly declared his interest in the Celtic job and insisted he was capable of taking them forward after Ronny Deila’s departure.

He told The BBC last summer: “If Celtic wanted to talk to me, I’d certainly be keen to do that.

“I think a record 10 titles in a row is achievable and a strong focus should be there. But, for that to happen, I think there is a detailed and strategic plan needed going forward. I think I could help with that and bring a fresh approach.

“I’ve got an understanding of the club and an ability for that to happen.”

Celtic decided to go in another direction and have not looked back, with Brendan Rodgers’ side still incredibly unbeaten in domestic competition all season.

This increased the pressure on Rangers, with the Light Blues 30 points behind their rivals and sitting in third place.

Mark Warburton left his post earlier this month, with under-20 coach Graeme Murty taking temporary charge.
