Latest Aston Villa first-team debutant Corey Blackett-Taylor has told the Birmingham Mail that he aims to emulate the progression of fellow teenager Andre Green at the club.
Blackett-Taylor was handed his senior Villa debut earlier this month as a late substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town.
That added his name to a list of promoted youth players which also includes the likes of Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Keinan Davis, who have also played small cameo roles this term.
Another youth star to have made it in the senior set-up is Green, who has begun to play a more prominent role under Steve Bruce in recent weeks.
The 18-year-old has made 15 appearances for Villa this campaign, including four Championship starts, and is generally regarded as a future first-team regular.
Now, after his own debut, Blackett-Taylor, who is actually nine months older than Green, admitted that he is desperate to copy the success of the winger.
Blackett-Taylor said, via the Birmingham Mail: “Andre is a similar player to me and I’ve looked at how he’s taken his opportunity.
“All of us in the changing room look up to him. He’s had the opportunity and taken it. We want to follow in his footsteps.
“It’s reassuring to know that someone coming from the youth development system has managed to make that step up to the first team. It’s inspirational for us.”
Opportunities for Blackett-Taylor are likely to be few and far between, but in Green – as well as other academy graduates such as Jack Grealish – there is plenty for the teenager to aspire to.
It remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old will be involved as Villa travel to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
