Mark Little could be the ideal solution to Nottingham Forest’s right back problem – provided Bristol City don’t offer him a new deal.

Nottingham Forest’s search for a back-up right-back appears to be nowhere near conclusion. In fact, Championship rivals Ipswich Town continue to stand in Mark Warburton’s way.

HITC sources told us that Forest were interested in signing Jordan Spence this summer with the defender reviving his career at Ipswich Town after six months without a club. However, the 26-year-old has stated that he plans to reward Mick McCarthy’s trust by extending his contract at Portman Road beyond the summer.

And this fresh blow comes just a few days after Luke Chambers, a former Forest captain, signed a new contract with Ipswich. The Nottingham Post reported that the 31-year-old had been closing in on a return to the City Ground in January, only for Ipswich to back out of the deal at the last minute.

Forest, therefore, must turn their attention elsewhere.

Though perhaps Ashton Gate is a good place to start. The Bristol Post reports that right-back Mark Little is out of contract at the end of the season and may be available on a free this summer. Which is an obvious plus point for a club who need to save their funds for improving the starting XI.

Furthermore, Little has largely impressed in 26 Championship starts for Lee Johnson’s side this season, ensuring Sunderland loanee Adam Matthews has barely had a look in.

The 28-year-old has bags of Championship experience under his belt from his spells with City and Peterborough United so would therefore represent a solid understudy to Eric Lichaj if Forest were to consider offering him a new home in the summer.

Little is hardly the type of signing that would get fans rushing to renew their season ticket but, in a 46 game season, a strong squad is essential.

And Little would offer some much needed quality in reserve.
