Leeds United were linked with a move for Ligue 1 centre-back William Remy on transfer deadline day this summer.
William Remy might be wishing that he had managed to engineer a move to Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
L’Equipe claimed that Leeds and Championship rivals QPR were pushing to sign the centre-back from Ligue 1 side Montpellier in the final few hours of deadline day. But, when the window slammed shut on September 1st, Remy was still stuck with the Herault-based club.
Though the 26-year-old, who has one cap for France’s Under-19 side, is far from a first-team regular. Remy has fallen down the pecking order at Montpellier. After making just eight Ligue 1 starts last season, he has not featured in a single top flight game in 2017/18.
Remy might have hoped to be given a rare opportunity in the Coupe de la Ligue clash with Guingamp on Tuesday but was omitted entirely from the matchday squad.

As such, it seems as if the former Dijon youngster is wasted in Montpellier for the time being. Though Remy is not only out-of-favour but very nearly out-of-contract too.
The 6ft centre-back will be a free agent when his deal expires at the end of the current campaign and, with Montpellier manager Michel der Zakarian seemingly reluctant to give him even the slightest hope of a first-team chance, the Ligue 1 club would surely consider cashing in if Leeds renew their interest in the January transfer window.
There’s a feeling at Elland Road that Leeds did not replace last season’s loanee Kyle Bartley well enough. And with Everton youngster Matthew Pennington only on loan for the season, Remy could add some much needed depth in defence.
If Remy wanted an even clearer indication that he isn’t needed at Montpellier, being frozen out of a midweek cup clash will do the trick.
