Late activity is helping Everton bed in new additions slowly and avoid mistakes

Everton’s approach this summer has differed to last year.

Everton have had a steady if unspectacular start to the season so far and remain unbeaten after four games.

The Toffees had another busy transfer window but this year a lot of their business was done late.

This has meant a slow start for several of their additions, with Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes yet to feature.

Lucas Digne and Kurt Zouma have only started one league game each, while Bernard has only played briefly off the bench.

This has meant Everton are still to even scratch the surface on their potential and there is a lot of room for improvement.

The late activity also has actually helped their start to the season, as opposed to signing them all early and trying to gel the team instantly.

Everton experienced this problem last season with shaky results early on which helped cost Ronald Koeman his job.

West Ham are currently discovering there are issues with trying to mesh several new signings from day one.

Everton by contrast have been adding only a couple to start the season, slowly evolving their line up as players prove themselves and become available.

Buying late in the transfer window is not always advised, but in this case it appears to have helped Everton, with fitness issues meaning their new signings simply were not ready for the start of the season.

This looks to be to their benefit and fans have so much to look forward to when their new additions all hit their stride and start making an impact.
