Arsenal fans have hit out at the European Super League after they released a statement saying that they wanted to ‘reshape’ the project following last night’s drama.
Arsenal and every other English club pulled out of the newly formed tournament yesterday, amid fierce backlash from supporters.
Arsenal’s board decided that they could no longer play in the competition, given the anger that the decision had caused in the fan base.
The Gunners actually made an apology for their actions, but Arsenal fans are still calling for resignations right at the top.
The ESL does not appear to be giving up entirely on their project yet though.
“Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to the pressure on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations,” an ESL statement read last night, as covered by the Guardian.
“Given the current circumstances, we shall reconsider the most appropriate steps to reshape the project, always having in mind our goals of offering fans the best experience possible while enhancing solidarity payments for the entire football community.”
And that has caused further protestation among Arsenal supporters, who want no part of the ESL project, reformed or not.
Even if the ESL do reshape their project now, it is fairly difficult to see how any club could sign up for it.
There would surely be a lot of caution around joining such a breakaway tournament, given the protests that it has caused this time around.

Arsenal fans’ attention will now, at least, be able to return to matters on the pitch.
Mikel Arteta’s side are next in action on Friday evening, when they take on Everton.
