Steven Gerrard and Stan Collymore have reacted to Leeds United fans giving Tyrone Mings stick during Aston Villa’s 3-0 win at Elland Road on Thursday night.

Former Villa striker Collymore rubbed salt into the Leeds wounds after the game by repeating the chant from the Yorkshire faithful.

Collymore also made sure to remind the fans that Villa secured a clean sheet, three points and they are now sitting top half of the table, as he posted on Twitter.

From the get-go, chants of ‘Tyrone Mings is….” could be heard from the terraces, including Mings getting booed every time he got on the ball.

Meanwhile, Gerrard added that the best response to such hostility is to have the ‘last laugh’ and Mings certainly did that, as quoted by Birmingham World.

“I think the only way to answer it (negative chants) when it’s coming from the terraces and the stands is to make sure your team win first and foremost and get the last laugh and make sure you keep a clean sheet,” said Gerrard.

“There’s no better way to answer it in terms of the bigger picture. That’s what it’s about, it’s about banter from the terraces and all that. No problem. We welcome all of that.

“That’s why the league is the best league in the world because all around the country there’s top supporters everywhere.”

In truth, Leeds fans should be more concerned about their own backline because they were abject against Villa and have been all season.

Mings was outstanding in Yorkshire and, added with his clean sheet, he also walked away with an assist when Calum Chambers channelled his inner Mo Salah.

The England international did his talking on the field of play and he will be hoping to continue that form at the London Stadium.

Villa have won three on the bounce and they will now face a West Ham side chasing Champions League football, but they have also come off the back of a tricky Europa League tie in Sevilla.
