Daniel Ayala’s late header rescued a point for manager-less Boro. The home side had taken the lead through Albert Adomah but goals from Troy Deeney and Fernando Forestieri put Watford ahead. However, Ayala’s goal late into stoppage time denied the Hornets the chance to move above Reading and into the play-off places.
Watford 1-0 Middlesbrough (15th February, 2014)
Both teams ended with 10 men as Troy Deeney’s penalty proved decisive at Vicarage Road. Two minutes after Watford had taken the lead through Deeney, Samba Diakite was sent-off for reckless tackle on Boro’s Dean Whitehead. Five minutes later, Ben Gibson saw red for his second bookable offense, which helped Giuseppe Sannino’s Hornets side see out the rest of the game.
Middlesbrough 1-1 Watford (25th October, 2014)
Middlesbrough and Watford couldn’t be separated at the Riverside following impressive starts to the season. Kike had put Aitor Karanka’s side ahead but Deeney’s equaliser meant Watford retained their spot in the Championship’s top two.
Watford 2-0 Middlesbrough (6th April, 2015)
Goals from Deeney and Odion Ighalo provided another twists in the race for promotion to the Premier League. Karanka’s Boro team had gone into this game top of the league but defeat saw them drop below Watford into 4th place. The win for Slavisa Jakanovic’s Hornets saw them continue their impressive run of seven wins in nine games.
