Rangers suffered disappointment on Thursday night as they lost 4-3 at Spartak Moscow, despite leading the game on three separate occasions.
A minute of madness in the second half took Rangers from 3-2 up to 4-3 down, and the Gers couldn’t haul themselves back into the game as they lost for just a fourth time under Steven Gerrard.
Recent performances have been somewhat disappointing, and Gerrard needs improvements from his side, with some players experiencing staggering dips in form since the start of the season; such as midfielder Lassana Coulibaly.
The Malian ace started the season superbly, but has been struggling ever since a September injury, and he turned in another dismal performance on Thursday night.
On loan from Angers for the season, Coulibaly looked to be doing everything right in his quest for a permanent deal earlier this season, but is now ruining his Rangers future by the game at this stage.
With Coulibaly’s performance taking a real dip, a permanent move seems unlikely at this stage, and Rangers may be better off looking to a summer target who was wanted before Coulibaly arrived at Ibrox.
Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara was scouted by the Gers shortly after Gerrard’s appointment, as reported by The Scottish Sunday Express (13/05), with his appearances really catching the eye at Dens Park.
Kamara is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning he could be available for a bargain fee in January or for free, making him immediately better value than the struggling Coulibaly – and Finnish talent Kamara has continued to impress this season, meaning that if Rangers want a smart, athletic midfielder with ability on the ball to play either as a holder or in a box-to-box role, Kamara would be an upgrade on Coulibaly as things stand.
