The Leeds United striker produced a disappointing display as they crashed out of the FA Cup.
Leeds United were knocked out of the FA Cup at the third round stage yesterday as they were beaten 2-1 away by Newport County, with Thomas Christiansen’s side producing an underwhelming display.
One player whose performance was especially disappointing was Pierre-Michel Lasogga, with the striker lacking conviction in front of goal.
Lasogga, who is on a season-long loan at Leeds from Hamburg, has scored five goals in the Championship this season but has failed to find the net since returning from illness.
On the basis of his performance against Newport County, and many of the other games that he has played this season, there is little evidence to suggest that Lasogga could have an important part to play for Leeds in the remainder of the campaign.
Christiansen’s team are determined to secure a place in the play-offs and earn promotion to the Premier League, but Lasogga isn’t clinical enough to make a significant contribution.
Perhaps the best option for Leeds would be to use Lasogga as a rather peripheral figure, only calling upon him during an injury crisis or when other players need to be rested.
Relying heavily upon the German certainly wouldn’t be a wise tactic.
