Leeds United are doing just fine in Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s absence.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga has been missing for Leeds United’s last five matches but, rather than faltering, the Whites have impressed for the most part, picking up 10 points from a possible 15.
In fact, the on-loan German is suffering the exact opposite of the effect that struck during Caleb Ekuban’s enforced absence earlier in the campaign, when Leeds were struggling and their fans could not wait for the Ghanaian to return.
Ekuban’s talent and importance grew by the week, not through anything tangible, but as a result of his Leeds teammates failing to do the business, Lasogga included.
In contrast, Leeds are doing just fine without the German target-man, meaning his own importance has decreased to such an extent that you would be hard pressed to find many Whites fans craving his return.
Even with Ekuban leaving the field early against Queens Park Rangers, a Kemar Roofe hat-trick ensured Leeds picked up another massive three points, and there is no way the former Oxford United man is being dropped after that performance.
Even Pawel Cibicki showed up, marking his Championship debut with an impressive outing, leaving Lasogga to wonder where it all went wrong.
There is no doubt the German will get more chances in the months ahead, yet he has had to watch as Leeds have excelled without him, adding more movement and sparkle to their attack.
Had they struggled in front of goal, Leeds fans may have been calling for Lasogga as they once were for Ekuban. Instead the German already looks surplus to requirements.
