The German forward enjoyed a brilliant start to life at Leeds United.

It did not take Pierre-Michel Lasogga long to prove his worth to Leeds United, with the loanee netting a brace on his Whites debut to help them on their way to a 5-0 victory.

It was a huge statement of intent and quickly justifies Leeds’ move for the 25-year-old Hamburg forward, and while a temporary move for Lasogga always looked to be a no-brainer, Thomas Christiansen’s side deserve huge credit for getting the deal done.

When the forward plays regularly, he scores regularly, and so it proved when he netted twice against Burton Albion.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing in football, but anyone who knew what Lasogga was capable of would have seen the deal that brought him to Elland Road as a masterstroke, not least because his parent club are picking up 75 per cent of his weekly wage.

Leeds got a bona fide goal-scorer with a point to prove at a snip for arguably the most important year in their recent history, so why on earth did other clubs not make their move?

It is testament to the pulling power of Leeds’ new director of football Victor Orta that he convinced Lasogga to step down a division, just as it is that the Whites somehow got their man without smashing their wage structure.

Hamburg are footing most of the bill but Leeds are getting all the benefit and it will be interesting to see just how many goals Lasogga scores by the end of the campaign.

If he breaks the 30-goal barrier, Chris Wood will be quickly forgotten (perhaps he already has), and Leeds could be on course for that much anticipated and long overdue promotion.
