Newcastle advanced to the third round of the EFL Cup with a 2-0 win over Cheltenham.

Jamaal Lascelles took to Twitter to congratulate his teammates and celebrate their victory over Cheltenham Town.
The Magpies made it through to round three of the EFL Cup with a home victory over the League Two side, winning 2-0 thanks to two goals from Ayoze Perez.

Having helped Newcastle record back-to-back clean sheets, the captain wrote on Twitter about how good it was to pick up another three points after winning their previous two Championship games, as well as commenting on the return of Aleksandar Mitrovic.
An oversight by the youngster, Newcastle obviously did not pick up three points from their cup exploits and instead reached round three of the EFL Cup.
Lascelles’ error was quickly picked up by his followers, who were more than happy to let him know about the giant error he has made. Having been dropped by Rafael Benitez for two poor performances, this is the first mistake the 22-year-old has made since returning to the starting line up.

Having realised his error, Lascelles tweeted again, this time using a fishing rod emoji, suggesting that his slip up was actually a joke.
Fans were quick to reply again, suggesting that he had posted the second tweet as an attempt to cover up his mistake.
A comical moment for Lascelles, who has had a troubled start to life as Newcastle captain, and this will certainly have left him red faced again.

Benitez will be hoping that his skipper makes no more mistakes this week, as they prepare for a massive home game against Brighton, where three points will definitely be available.
