Newcastle suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has applauded his Toon teammates after they battled bravely against Premier League leaders Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Pep Guardiola’s side held onto a 1-0 win at St. James’ Park thanks to Raheem Sterling’s first-half strike, which saw him finish off the post first time after an excellent chipped through ball from midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has been criticised for fielding a side that intended on frustrating City, which they did for large periods of the match. They even had chances of their own; Rolando Aarons’ chip being cleared off the line.
Former Nottingham Forest central defender Lascelles took to Twitter to thank the fans for their support as well as praising his teammates, before stating that the focus is on Saturday’s crucial match against Brighton.
The loss has seen Newcastle now lose nine of their last 11 Premier League outings, as they remain in a lowly 15th place and just one point above the Premier League relegation zone.
Newcastle fans reacted to Lascelles tweet, with one fan even claiming that England manager Gareth Southgate “must have been impressed” by the captain’s performance at the back.
