Where is Celtic flop Mohamed Bangura now?
Henrik Larsson is a Celtic hero – but not quite everything he touched has turned to gold.
The Swede’s biggest error turned out to be a costly one for Celtic, after they acted on a recommendation from him.
Larsson advised Celtic to sign Mohamed Bangura from Swedish side AIK Stockholm in 2011, and the Scottish club swiftly acted.
Celtic signed Bangura for £2.5 million, offering him a four-year deal.
His record at AIK was decent but not spectacular, netting 14 goals in 35 games.
Bangura spoke of his delight at the recommendation from Larsson, telling BBC Sport: “I’m flattered that someone like Henrik Larsson would recommend me.
“I know all about what a great player he was for Celtic. I am delighted to be joining a club the size of Celtic.”
That moment was about as good as it got for Bangura at Celtic – he failed to score a goal for the club and did not look up to scratch.
A return to AIK followed before he switched to play his football in Turkey.
In 2017 Bangura is still playing professionally, and is 28-years-old.
He is contracted to Swedish second division club Dalkurd. The team is a club set up by Kurdish immigrants in 2004, and they won promotion to the second tier in 2016.
The Sierra Leone’s goalscoring issues continue. This season he has netted just twice in 13 appearances.
