The Dutchman was pleased to get away from Forest on deadline day.
Nottingham Forest’s Lars Veldwijk looks dejected
Dutch striker Lars Veldwijk has had a parting shot at Nottingham Forest following his move away from the City Ground yesterday.
The striker joined Belgian side KV Kortrijk on a free transfer yesterday, with Forest agreeing to cancel his contract in order for the deal to go through.
He admitted to VoetbalKrankt yesterday that he did not know much about his new team, but was pleased to be away from Forest:
Nottingham Forest’s Lars Veldwijk looks dejected at full time
“When my agent called about the interest of KV Kortrijk I honestly did not know so much about the club. I know only that they have an old stadium, but that there would be lots of atmosphere on game days.
“Indeed, there were teams from Scotland and Turkey interested and I also spoke with ADO Den Haag, Zwolle, Utrecht, Vitesse and some Dutch clubs. Yes, I was on a lot of lists, but nothing happened.
“I am pleased that I have come away from Nottingham, they did not always do great.”
Veldwijk’s career at Forest has certainly been odd.
He arrived with a reputation for scoring goals and then went his entire first season without scoring a single goal.
The following summer he was therefore loaned out. Then he did start scoring again. He netted 14 goals in 35 appearances for the Dutch club PEC Zwolle.
That form saw him linked with several moves away from Forest this summer – despite recently scoring his first goal for the club, finally.
But it was simply a deal that, for whatever reason, has failed to pan out.
Forest fans will certainly not begrudge him a good career in Belgian football following his exit.
