Aymeric Laporte told Sky Sports on Super Sunday that he was trying to be ‘careful’ in the second half after he wasn’t controversially sent off as Manchester City beat Tottenham in the League Cup final at Wembley.
In the first half, the Man City centre-back fouled Tottenham speedster, Lucas Moura, on two occasions as he tried to break on the counter-attack.
Even though on-field referee, Paul Tierney, acknowledged that both challenges were fouls, the Frenchman was only booked once.
Tottenham fans would have been raging when Laporte ended up scoring the winning goal, as he shared what he was thinking in the second half following that first half controversy.
“The second half I was thinking a lot about that (getting a second yellow),” said Laporte. “We know that a little mistake can cost you a lot, so I have been careful in the second half.
“I tried to not to commit a fault.”

That’s a remarkable four League Cup wins on the bounce for Man City, who dominated the game throughout.
Even though Spurs would have been annoyed with the Laporte call, during the course of the game, they were second best.
Tottenham fans would have been excited to see Harry Kane in the starting XI, but in the end, he couldn’t have the impact he would have liked.
