Lampard talks on Manchester City future

Frank Lampard says he’s loving his time at Manchester City, but won’t be drawn at present on whether his loan deal will be extended past January 1.

Frank Lampard is remaining mum on his future at Manchester City, amid reports that his loan deal could be extended past his scheduled return to the USA.

Lampard signed for MLS expansion side New York City FC this summer after leaving Chelsea, but made the temporary switch to the Etihad Stadium as their sister club won’t begin their inaugural season until March 2015.

While his loan arrangement is set to end on January 1 at present, talk of Manuel Pellegrini wanting to keep the 36-year-old into the spring has been rampant after he scored four goals in his first seven games, winning the club’s player of the month award for September in the process.

With NYCFC intent on having their star signing around for their first-ever pre-season, some reports have claimed that the US outfit could hold part of their preparations at City’s new £200 million training complex, allowing Lampard to both train with his new teammates and continue to turn out for the Blues for the first month of 2015.

The Chelsea legend wouldn’t be drawn on that speculation, however, telling the club’s official website: ‘All I can say is how much I’m enjoying it at City.

‘I’m contracted here until the end of December and my future will be at New York City at some stage.

‘All I can do now is go week by week and play as well as I can when I am playing to bring a good contribution.

‘I didn’t know what to expect before I came here but the move has opened my eyes to a fantastic club with fantastic people behind-the-scenes and I’m just trying to enjoy every minute.

‘It’s a great opportunity – not many at 36 get the chance to come and play for a club like City. I love the training, living up here, the people at the club, the staff and the fans.

‘When I left Chelsea, I thought I was going to be moving out of the Premier League and that was a different angle,’ he added. ‘That’s all to come still but this is an absolutely brilliant time for me.

‘I want to look back on it and say I enjoyed it – but more than that, I want to look back and say I made a bit of a difference in a positive way.

‘What I will say is: for every minute I am here, I’ll give it everything and we’ll see how it goes.’

Lampard is currently recovering from a thigh injury sustained in last month’s 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, and could return for the Champions League clash at home to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night.
