Frank Lampard has stated that he was watching Anthony Gordon ‘as an outsider’ before he got the Everton job, as he told his press conference.

The recently-appointed Everton boss stated that Gordon has ‘all the attributes’ to do well in the game.

Everton beat Brentford 4-1 to knock the London side out of the FA Cup in Lampard’s first game in charge.

Gordon played just over 70 minutes for his side and it seems as though he made quite an impression on the man in the dugout.

Lampard shared what he likes about the 20-year-old and the connection the local boy has with the Goodison Park faithful.

“I have been watching Anthony (Gordon) this season,” said Lampard. “Just as an outsider, as a neutral as such.

“I have loved things about his game. When you come to see someone, you don’t try to make too many judgements before. But you work with them. I have seen him first-hand all week and he has great quality. Loves this club. It oozes out of him. The fans love that.

“He also has a great attitude. He has all the attributes to do what he wants to do in the game.

“I won’t jump on him too much because I don’t want to, after one game, give him an issue and something he lives up to. But I can see it in him that he has what it takes.”

With all the money spent by Everton, perhaps their answers lie inside their academy.

That has seemingly been forgotten about amid the hundreds of millions of money spent and the high volume of managers that have taken to the touchline.

But during what has been a troublesome campaign for the Toffees, Gordon has been one of the standout performers and is proving that he deserves more minutes out on the pitch.

Under Frank’s stewardship, there is no reason why he can’t now take his game to the next level because the ex-Chelsea boss has proven that he can work wonders with the youngsters.
