Frank Lampard told Sky Sports after Tuesday night’s defeat to Newcastle that Allan Saint-Maximin was “unplayable” against his Everton side. The Frenchman sparkled in Newcastle’s priceless 3-1 win over the Toffees.
Saint-Maximin, 24, was in stunning form for Newcastle as the Toon made it two wins from two – after their recent win over Leeds. While he did not score himself, the Frenchman was crucial in Newcastle’s brilliant victory.
His tireless running, dribbling and trickery got Newcastle up the other end of the pitch. While Kieran Trippier scored the winning goal and Ryan Fraser also netted, it was Saint-Maximin that earned the Man of the Match award.
Speaking after the match, Everton boss Lampard was magnanimous enough to praise Newcastle’s attacker – claiming he was “unplayable” and that his Everton defence stood no chance in defending the Frenchman.
“We’ve come to a very difficult match against Newcastle, who are very effective in some of their direct play, the second balls and a player on the pitch like Saint-Maximin, who is pretty unplayable to be fair.”
Lampard on Saint-Maximin: Newcastle ace key to survival
If Newcastle are going to avoid the drop, Saint-Maximin will be absolutely pivotal in keeping Newcastle above the bottom three. His ability, on the counter, adds the much-needed threat in attack that the Toon crave.
He has the magic to change games and the confidence to try something that gets fans out of their seats. With Newcastle now on the way up and looking forward after eight points from four games, Saint-Maximin is impressing.
