Frank Lampard could now make a shock return to Chelsea after being overlooked by Crystal Palace and Southampton.
What’s the story?
Well – according to The Athletic – Southampton considered a move for Lampard after sacking Nathan Jones in February, but decided against it as Ruben Selles was handed the reins.
Elsewhere – as detailed by the Mirror – the Englishman was also an option for Crystal Palace, although the south Londoners chose to bring Roy Hodgson back instead.
Now, Lampard could be returning to Chelsea as a Caretaker Manager after Todd Boehly sacked Graham Potter.
TalkSPORT believe the 44-year-old is a shock candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season, as those in the boardroom consider the best option from the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique.
It would be a remarkable move by the Blues if an agreement does materialise.

Lampard received his P45 at Everton back in January after a dreadful run of form left the Toffees 19th in the Premier League.
Therefore, it would be quite a unique return to management if he is entrusted to take over at Chelsea, where the Blues still have a chance of lifting the Champions League ahead of their Quarter-Final clash against Real Madrid.
Lampard could get redemption shot at Chelsea
Of course, Boehly surely isn’t thinking about giving Lampard the reins on a long-term basis.
However, it wouldn’t surprise us if the American gave genuine consideration to doing exactly that if Lampard performs well on his return to Stamford Bridge, where he was spotted watching Tuesday’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool.
For example, the 44-year-old has a squad capable of winning the Champions League, and if he goes on to do that, Boehly may be tempted to buy into a permanent appointment given his status as a club legend at Stamford Bridge.
Whatever happens, the Premier League managerial circus is certainly in full swing right now – to say the least.
