Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Arsenal and some of the decisions Mikel Arteta has made at the club.
Arteta, as a young manager, has a number of critics, and as you can imagine, every decision he’s made is analysed to an incredible degree of scrutiny.
This summer, Arsenal were Europe’s biggest spenders, and many believed that the Gunners wasted their money on the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu for differing reasons.
In fact, Wright says that people laughed at Arteta for those signings at the time.
What’s been said?
Wright spoke about some of the decisions Arteta has made.
“There’s definitely things with Arsenal where you go ‘what are you doing’, but he’s fixed things,” Wright’s co-host said.
“That’s what they said with Aaron Ramsdale and Tomiyasu, the way he was lambasted, and people laughed at us in fact with the signings. Even with Auba and what happened with Ozil, he’s had to clear things out, and now we need goals. The fact is that Mikel makes decisions for the club and for the team, and I can see what we’re trying to do. Hopefully more things can happen in the summer that can bolt onto this team and what we’re trying to do,” Wright said.

Worked out
Many did lambaste Arteta for signing Tomiyasu and Ramsdale in the summer, but they’ve probably changed their minds by now.
Tomiyasu arrived as an unproven defender, but he’s taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and become a star.
Meanwhile, Ramsdale arrived at the Emirates off the back of two relegations, but just a few months down the line, there’s talk of him becoming England’s number one.
Arteta got his signings spot on, and he deserves a lot of credit for that.
