Leeds United announced on Friday that they had loaned out Alfie McCalmont.

The 20-year-old is one of many exciting young players from the Whites’ reserve squad at Thorp Arch.

But McCalmont, a full Northern Ireland international, will spend this season on loan at League Two outfit Oldham Athletic.

With Leeds back in the Premier League, it’s harder than ever for starlets to progress into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans and Director of Football Victor Orta has evidently taken the decision to loan him out.

The young midfielder has two senior appearances for United under his belt and here’s how fans of the Elland Road club reacted to this development on Twitter:

The Latics are home to Crawley Town this afternoon and it’ll be interesting to see if the Leeds youngster gets an immediate debut.

Considering he’s only 20 and has already been capped for his country, the United fans are right in saying that McCalmont is clearly a big talent and it’ll be fascinating to see how he develops over the next nine months or so.
