West Ham United manager David Moyes has given an update on Gianluca Scamacca facing Brentford this Friday. The forward had to sit out the Irons’ defeat at Arsenal with an injury.

The Hammers returned to Premier League action at Emirates Stadium on Monday night in their first match since the World Cup. But despite taking the lead through Said Benrahma’s first-half penalty, West Ham fell to a 3-1 loss as Arsenal replied on 53’, 58’ and 69 minutes.

Scamacca was absent in north London after rolling his ankle in the Irons’ final mid-season friendly with Fulham. The 23-year-old had cemented himself as Moyes’ favoured forward before the World Cup. He had started the east London natives’ last eight league matches.

The Irons now face another capital club on Friday night as Brentford make the trip over to the London Stadium. But Moyes is still unsure if Scamacca has overcome his injury enough to feature after the West Ham boss delivered an update on their £30.5m summer signing.

“Gianluca has done a little bit of training, so we will see on him,” Moyes said, via quotes by football.london. “He is probably lacking a bit of match practice.”

West Ham will hope for a better update on Scamacca’s injury before facing Brentford

While Moyes noted in his update that Scamacca is likely lacking match fitness, he will hope the striker overcomes his injury to return for West Ham soon. The Irons boss will want the nine-cap Italy ace back on the pitch as quickly as possible to get his season back into gear.

Scamacca entered the World Cup break without scoring a goal during his past six Premier League games. The 23-year-old has also only scored twice over his 13 top-flight outings in claret-and-blue so far. His goals came in wins against with Wolves and Fulham in October.

Michail Antonio also struggled at Arsenal after coming into the West Ham line-up following Scamacca’s injury. The game often passed by the 32-year-old, who is now without a goal in six league appearances. He has also only found the net twice in 15 outings so far this term.
