Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be close to signing Stevenage defender Ben Wilmot.

The 18-year-old has only made five senior appearances for Stevenage and would likely be loaned back, or join up with Tottenham’s academy, if a move went through this month.
Wilmot would represent Tottenham’s first January signing after they passed up their chance at Ross Barkley, who instead joined Chelsea for £15m – fee reported by BBC Sport.

Spurs also seem poised to miss out on Bordeaux winger Malcom, with The Independent understanding that Arsenal have outbid their London rivals for the Brazilian, who is viewed as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez with the Chilean forward poised to join Manchester United.
News of Wilmot’s potential arrival has garnered a mixed reponse among Spurs fans, who are more than happy to see the club continue to invest in young, English talent but are frustrated by what they perceive to be a lack of ambition as the rest of the Premier League’s top six splash the cash.
