LA Galaxy midfielder Riqui Puig has shrugged off the idea that he could return to FC Barcelona after an incredible season in MLS.
Speaking to Catalan-based publication Sport, the 23-year-old was asked if he could one day return to his boyhood club. And whilst Puig admitted that Barcelona are the team that he supports, he has now plans to return home or to leave the Galaxy.
The midfield superstar said when asked about returning to Barcelona: “It’s the club of my life, but at Barça they didn’t give me the minutes I needed to feel like a footballer. Los Angeles is an incredible city and we have a very good team where I feel important.”

With three goals and three assists from midfield, Puig has been one of the most entertaining players in MLS this season, and the youngster’s form in recent weeks has some pundits and fans putting the 23-year-old in mid-season contention for the MVP award.
Indeed, a return to Europe is seemingly a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ for Puig. Yet whilst a move to Barcelona would be a dream, the Catalan-born superstar will have to push his talents to the max if he is to win a transfer back to the Camp Nou.
Puig returning to Barcelona would be quite the surprise

Puig’s time at Barcelona was underlined by false potential and disappointing performances, with the midfielder once tipped to become another superstar La Masia product who could become world-class. And whilst there’s no denying the youngster’s talents, a return to Catalonia now would be quite surprising.
As we know, Puig is only now starting to show signs that he might be way too good to be playing in MLS at this stage of his career. And whilst a move to Barcelona would be exceptional, there currently feels there’s zero chance that a fairytale comeback to Xavi Hernandez’s side will actually happen.
