The LA Galaxy could reportedly now be in a position to make a big international transfer this summer thanks to an MLS loophole that could be exploited next month.
According to the Athletic, the Galaxy could bypass their ongoing transfer ban due to the language used in the MLS handbook that states that the California franchise can’t make signings in the secondary window, which ends August 2nd.
However, MLS clubs can sign free agents after the secondary window closes until the roster freeze deadline on September 2nd, meaning the Galaxy legally can sign a non-contracted player from anywhere around the world next month.

As a result, the Galaxy can legally sign international free agents having only been restricted to domestic transfers this window, with Javier Hernandez’s season-ending injury also meaning that a Designated Player spot is vacant.
With a number of high-profile free agents out there on the market, there’s a real chance that the Galaxy can make a big-name signing this summer, with MLS’ reputation hitting an all-time high with the arrival of Lionel Messi.
Indeed, the Galaxy front office have no doubt had this loophole in mind for some time as we head to the end of the secondary transfer window. And next month could see the MLS giants make another historic signing.
LA Galaxy have to make the most of MLS loophole

MLS rule changes are rumored to be coming this December that will streamline the transfer process for the entire league, yet for the time being, the Galaxy will be wise to use this loophole for their benefit.
Hernandez’s injury means a DP spot is free until the end of the season, and this could allow Greg Vanney to pull off a signing that could save the Galaxy’s year and get them back in the fight for the playoffs.
A number of names have been linked to the Galaxy this summer, yet dipping into the free agent market for that superstar talisman could be what saves the MLS giants from another year of mediocrity.
