Kylian Mbappe insists that he has not made a decision on where he will be playing his football next season, but HITC Football understands Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is confident he will choose to move to the Spanish capital.

Kylian Mbappe infuriated his Paris Saint-Germain employers last summer when he revealed he would not be agreeing to the option of another year taking his contract to 2025, instead meaning his deal expires this summer.

PSG remain hopeful they can persuade the 25-year-old to stay and sign a new deal – as they did back in 2022, when he turned down the chance to join Real Madrid. PSG are believed to be offering Mbappe terms that would also include a release clause, in the hope that they could recoup some money from a potential deal.

Real waiting in-the-wings

HITC Football understands that whilst no agreement is in place with Real, Mbappe’s entourage – led by his mother and agent Fayza Lamari – they are aware that the opportunity is there for them to move to the Spanish capital, indeed in theory they could sign a pre-contract this month and legally they could talk to Real.

Having fallen out publicly with PSG and their president Nasser Al-Khelaifi following his decision not to take up his option, Mbappe is now back involved in the first-team picture but insists that as yet nothing is decided.

Speaking to reporters after PSG’s 2-0 Trophee des Champions win over Toulouse, he said: “My future? I have not made a decision. In 2022 I didn’t know my decision until May.

“This time, if I knew what I wanted to do, I wouldn’t let my decision drag out. It wouldn’t make sense.”

“I haven’t made my decision but we have an agreement with the president Al Khelaifi so it means that all parties are protected.

“Focus is on the team, not on my situation.”

Mbappe, who turned down a world record move to Saudi Arabia last summer, has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Liverpool and Manchester United known to be long-term admirers – but sources have told HITC Football that the expectation remains that he will be heading to Madrid at the end of the season.
