By his own high standards, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang didn’t have a great season for Arsenal last time around.
The 31-year-old hitman scored only 15 goals from 39 games in all competitions.
It isn’t a bad total, but it isn’t brilliant either in light of the fact that he had exactly 60 goals in his previous two seasons for Arsenal before the 2020-21 campaign.
Nevertheless, Aubameyang remains a big name in European football and a certain Kylian Mbappe has namechecked him for praise.
The Paris Saint-Germain hitman focused particularly on the Gabon international’s speed and noted that he’s ‘incredibly quick’ in an interview with France Football.
He said: “In terms of an incredibly quick player, I would also put Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Neymar too, certainly before his injuries.”
Pressure
If he stays at Arsenal beyond this summer, there’s huge pressure on Aubameyang next term.
Not only is he club captain, but he’s also the Gunners’ highest-paid player after a lucrative contract extension last summer.
But his form since signing that bumper deal just hasn’t been up to scratch and with more money comes more responsibility.
And time will tell whether the former Borussia Dortmund marksman can cope with that pressure.
