Kylian Mbappe is becoming a true World Cup legend, and leading France to a second trophy would put him in rare company.

But even before July 19th final showdown in New York, Mbappe is rewriting the history books.

For starters, he has a real chance at taking top spot in the all-time World Cup scorers list in the next week and a bit. Mbappe has 19 in 19 appearances — which is frankly ridiculous — and he trails Lionel Messi by just two goals.

Against Morocco, he knocked another record off. The Frenchman is the youngest player in the competition’s history to reach 20 appearances at 27 years and 201 days (via OptaJoe). He unseats Poland’s Wladislaw Zmuda.

Mbappe is entering uncharted territory. As amazing as Messi has been, you can’t expect the same level of output at 43. At 31, though, the Frenchman will still be in his prime.

Just how many goals can he win? And looking at the team around him, how many World Cup trophies?

Kylian Mbappe news from Real Madrid

All of Mbappe’s focus will be on this tournament, but back in the Spanish capital, changes are being made to the Real Madrid staff.

And yes, Mbappe is the reason. His knee injury was misdiagnosed by medical staff who, incredibly, scanned the wrong leg (via Polymarket).

Madrid’s injury list was far too long to realistically compete for silverware last season. With a reinvigorated Mbappe leading the line and Jose Mourinho in the dugout, they will fancy their chances of getting back to winning trophies.
