Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker has told Sky Sports that Mauricio Pochettino’s comforting style at the start of pre-season was crucial.

Five members of Tottenham’s squad were part of the England team which badly disappointed at Euro 2016.

The Three Lions were dumped out of the international tournament by Iceland, and heavily criticised.

Walker admits that when he returned to Spurs’ training, he still had not managed to get the disappointment of Euro 2016 out of his mind.

However, the right-back was looked after by Pochettino, and he admits that the conversations he had with Tottenham’s boss helped him recover.

“It was still in the back of my mind when I got back to Tottenham,” Walker said. “The gaffer put his arm around us all and we had a little chat. I think it was a good learning curve for us.

“We pulled together as well. We are a very close bunch of lads.”
