Tottenham Hotspur lost the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, falling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

This was always going to be a big ask for Tottenham, given that Pep Guardiola’s men have been outstanding this season.

Add in that Jose Mourinho was sacked last week and Ryan Mason was managing just his second game, and Spurs were major underdogs.

In truth, 1-0 flattered Spurs a little, as City could have racked up a number of goals, but had to settle for one as Aymeric Laporte headed home Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick in the second half.

Tottenham barely laid a glove on City, and it proved to be a pretty comfortable evening for Kyle Walker against his former club.

The usually-dangerous Son Heung-min seemed reluctant to take on Walker, and the England international once again proved that he made the right decision in leaving Spurs.

LONDON, ENGLAND - APRIL 25: Kyle Walker of Manchester City interacts with Son Heung-Min of Tottenham Hotspur during the Carabao Cup Final between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium on April 25, 2021 in London, England. 8,000 fans are due to watch the game at Wembley, the most at an outdoor sporting event in the UK since the coronavirus pandemic started in March, 2020. Each team has been given an allocation of 2,000 with the remaining tickets split between local residents and NHS staff. (Photo by Tottenham Hotspur FC/Tottenham Hotspur FC via Getty Images)

That’s a seventh major trophy for Walker since leaving Spurs for City in 2017, and an eighth is on the way with the Premier League title.

Walker took to Twitter to react to the win, admitting that he was ‘buzzing’ to pick up another trophy whilst celebrating having a small number of fans back in the stadium.

Walker added that it’s always a pleasure to play against Spurs, and wished them best for the rest of the season after playing his part in extending Tottenham’s trophy drought beyond 13 years.
