Kyle Walker joined Manchester City from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2017.
Ahead of the Premier League game between Tottenham and City at the Wembley Stadium in London this past Saturday evening, Tottenham manager Pochettino told Football.London that he wanted the fans to give the right-back a good reception.
The England international defender left Spurs for Premier League rivals City in the summer transfer window for an initial transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £45 million.
Walker, who has won the Premier League title with City this season, has responded to Pochettino’s comments about him.
The 27-year-old former Sheffield United defender, who earns £110,000 per week as salary according to Spotrac.com, has also stated that he was devastated that he could not win the Premier League title with Tottenham.
Walker told Ham&High: “I heard what the Tottenham boss said, and I think that just shows the respect we have for each other. Whatever you read in the media, I know what really happened. I know the truth behind it.
“He can tell his story, I can tell my story but I won’t stand here and start slagging people off because that’s not what I’m about.
“I left because it felt like a time in my career where I needed to move on, and luckily it’s worked out.”
“Winning the Carabao Cup [in February] was a step in the right direction,” added Walker. “But to be in the Premier League since I was 19, playing all the games I’ve played in it, to not win the Premier League…
“It was a little bit devastating for me not to do with it with Tottenham. But to come here in my first season and [do it], it’s fantastic for me.”
Improvement at Manchester City
Walker had improved well during his time at Tottenham, especially under manager Pochettino, but he has taken his game to a new level at City working with Pep Guardiola this season.
